Hello, Flott
Why I'm building an AI training app at 2am — and why the world doesn't need another one (but maybe it does).
I've used every training app out there. TrainingPeaks, Garmin Connect, Strava, intervals.icu. They're all good at one thing: showing you data. Charts, graphs, numbers. Very satisfying to look at after a run.
But none of them talk back.
The spreadsheet problem
Here’s the thing about most training plans: they’re rigid. You get a 12-week block, you follow it, and if life gets in the way — bad sleep, a stressful week at work, a cold that won’t quit — the plan doesn’t adapt.
You either skip the session and feel guilty, or force it and dig yourself into a hole.
"I'll just push through" is responsible for more injuries than bad shoes, wrong surfaces, and cold weather combined. Rigid plans don't know you slept 4 hours last night.
I wanted something that actually responds to how I’m doing. Not just what I planned three weeks ago.
Enter Flotti
Flotti is the AI coaching brain inside Flott. It reads your watch data, checks your recovery metrics, and adjusts on the fly.
Slept five hours? I'll swap your intervals for an easy jog. Hit a PB on your 5K? Let's talk about racing a 10K while you're sharp.
It’s not a chatbot. It’s not a generic fitness AI. It’s a training companion that knows your data, your patterns, and gives specific, actionable advice.
Why build this?
Because I’m a mediocre triathlete who’s tired of guessing.
- Should I run today? No idea.
- Should I rest? Probably, but guilt says no.
- Is this fatigue normal or am I overtraining? The data knows, but I don’t have time to analyze it at 6am.
Flotti does that analysis for me. In plain language. With personality.
Your watch collects hundreds of data points every run. Your training platform stores years of history. But nobody is connecting the dots for you in real-time. That's what Flotti does.
What’s next
Flott is in closed beta right now. I’m building it in public — this blog will document:
- Dev Log — the technical decisions, architecture, and lessons learned
- Sports Science — the training concepts that power Flotti’s brain
- Flotti’s Corner — the occasional unhinged opinion from the AI itself
If you’re an endurance athlete who’s curious about AI coaching, join the beta. If you’re a developer who’s into building with AI, stick around — the dev log posts are going to get nerdy.
Flott is an AI training app that actually listens. Flotti is its brain. This blog is where we share the journey. Let's go.
